Art collective Alive Vibrant Timaru has brought a new mural and new vibrancy to an historical building in the CBD.
A new massive mural has emerged in the Timaru CBD over the past few days.
The street art towering above Stafford St was the latest in a series of works by Alive Vibrant Timaru.
Founder Ash Ronald said the community of artists was committed to bringing “vibrancy to the CBD and historical buildings”.
The new work by Japanese artist Koryu Aoshima, which will be finished by Waitangi Day, represents the proximity of the alps to the ocean in South Canterbury, Ronald said.

A whale, a black billed gull and a young woman blowing will be in the foreground with the blue ocean weaving into the mountains in the background.
The artwork is highly visible at the Strathallan Corner intersection, which joins the two main parts of town, with passersby already spotting it and photographing it.
“I would say this [mural] would have the most public impact with its proximity with Stafford St, Caroline Bay and the CBD,” he said.
